Instead of us telling you about the project, Claire Carpenter (The Melting Pot Managing
Director)
has kindly summed up why the Melting Pot commissioned FullVisual:

"The Melting Pot has used FullVisuals' virtual tours to great effect over the past 2 years. We
provide co-working, meeting and events space in Edinburgh's city centre, and have
thousands of
guests to our premises every year. We've had great feedback about the virtual tour function
from
visitors to our website who're looking at a range of venues - it's really helped them get a
feel for
the space, and for us to win their business if appropriate. We've recently updated the tours,
as our
space and services have been improved - and I see it as a key feature of our web-presence
going
forwards." (Claire Carpenter, Managing Director)

Its great to have the chance to help out a good cause just on our doorstep.

In July FullVisual was commissioned to create a very interesting 360 project for Craig
Coulthard, a
local Edinburgh artist. Craig has kindly offered to explain the project in the guest blog post
below:

"I am an artist based in Edinburgh, and was asked to create an artwork in response to an
architectural space for the Solar Pavilion project as part of the Edinburgh Art Festival 2011.
After
some consideration, I decided I wanted to create a 360 degree panoramic image of a
crumbling
theatre in Edinburgh. I am interested in places that to some extent have been forgotten, but
retain
a sense of drama and history.

After doing some research into 360 panorama's I realised I would need some assistance in
producing this image. I came across Full Visual on the internet, and was impressed with
their
work, particularly of theatrical spaces and approached
them
with the proposal that they would produce the image for me.

Leith Theatre Virtual Tour

I was pleased with the response from Full Visual, particularly with their openness to this as
an art
work, and not a commercial project. After finally receiving permission to have access to the
space,
Full Visual and myself spent around an hour arranging and taking the images. The process
was
much more straightforward and flexible than I had anticipated, and in the following week I
had
very constructive and useful discussion with full visual regarding the appearance of the
image, as
well as adding music to the final work. All in all, I am delighted with the final work, and
would
recommend Full Visual to anyone else looking for an open minded and accomodating
approach to
visual arts and panoramic photography."

Thanks

Dr Stephen Evans the University Web Manager at the University
of St Andrews has just written a great blog post on
the
virtual tours supplied by FullVisual:

The University of St Andrews has added a number of interactive
360 degree virtual tours
(view
these at http://www.st-
andrews.ac.uk/visiting/Virtualtours/)
throughout the website. The tours give visitors to the website
the opportunity to explore
different
parts of the University from the comfort of their PC. There
are four types of tours that have
been
taken:

- Outside locations e.g. St Salvator’s Quad
- Internal locations that are used for graduation, conferences
and weddings e.g. Younger
Hall, St
Salvator’s Chapel, Lower College Hall
- Rooms within halls of residence
- Locations within Schools e.g. a clean room with the School
of Physics and Astronomy

The tours give a unique insight into locations that are
normally restricted to the general
public so
this help visitors, such as prospective students, decide
whether to book a venue or rent
accommodation. Parents have particularly appreciated the
ability to see the venues for
graduation.

The high quality tours were taken by FullVisual, a company
based in Edinburgh. Their very
reasonable cost has enabled us to commission tours of bedrooms
and kitchens from each of
the
University halls of residence. Compared to conventionally
commissioned 2D photography,
the
virtual tours are very cost effective, especially when you
consider that each tour is
comprised of
over 100 photos!

The tours on the University website are currently in Quicktime
movie format. The website
will be
updated in the near future with tours in Flash, which is more
universally supported by web
browsers and provides a better user experience e.g. controls
are overlaid on the screen to
allow
the user to zoom in and out of the tour.

So, if you want to give visitors to your website a unique view
of your university, I would
highly
recommend the friendly staff at FullVisual!

It was a great pleasure to work with St Andrews University.
Over the next few months more
virtual
tours will appear on the University website. We will keep you
posted on any updates.
